After a very successful series that pioneered Pecha Kucha Nights in the Carolinas, Point8 Forum is back with a new series, and this time we are doing it in collaboration with CLT Blog and Dugg Dugg. Mark your calendars, PK5 kicks off Thursday, April 8!

What: Pecha Kucha Night Charlotte – Vol. 5
When: Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 pm (doors open at 7:00 pm)
Where: Dharma Lounge, South End (1440 S Tryon, NC 28203)
Admission: $5 at the door

…and we want you to present

We know there are amazing, brilliant, and wildly creative things around town, and in your mind – and this is your chance to share it with the rest of the region!  The only limitations are 20 images, 20 seconds per image, for a total of 6 minutes 40 seconds.  No other rules, except – make it extraordinary!

Why present?

It is an opportunity:
- to air your work/ideas, share your visions, express your concerns/critiques
- to challenge yourself to be concise and creative in getting your message across
- to present to a broad city-wide audience, in a casual social environment
- place yourself among the best creative talent in town

Guidelines, Rules and Selection Process

We will be limiting the total number for Vol. 5 to 12 presentations.

A panel made up of artists, designers, and architects from Point8, Dugg Dugg and CLT Blog will be selecting the final list of 12 presenters. The selection will be based on the quality of the entries, and the originality of the theme/ideas submitted. The panelists will work with would-be presenters on refining ideas & honing quality of presentations.

Important Dates

February 24 | Orientation For Would-Be Presenters
If you are interested in presenting, we strongly recommend that you to attend this session – esp. if you have not presented before. Panelists and past presenters will share tips on preparing a successful presentation. Orientation starts at 6:30 PM and will be held at Dharma Lounge.

March 22 | Deadline for Presentation Application
5 PM on Monday, March 22 is the deadline for would-be presenters to send in the final presentation package.

March 31 | Panelists Notified
All panelists will be selected and notified by March 31, 2010.

April 8 | Pecha Kucha Night
All Presenters will be required to reach the venue by 6:45 PM.

Vol. 4 will be back in Charlotte, most probably in late August. We haven’t decided on the exact date or location. We would love to have your help and input in all aspects of the event, including:

- Selecting the day and the venue,

- Finding presenters, communicating with them, and in putting together the final show,

- managing the website/web pages for the series,

- help at the venue during the event…

…plus there are many other things that you could be involved in. Be a part of one of the most exciting art/design-related social events in town.

Moreover, this time we will also be discussing the future of the series, beyond Vol. 4.

The success of these events were far greater than what we had imagined when we started off. While it is wonderful to have that kind of popularity and recognition, managing such a large scale series is also pretty demanding for an all-voluntary, informal group like point8. So we would like your input on whether or not to continue the Pecha Kucha series, and if we do, how you can be involved in it.

So please stop by on Thursday, grab a drink, and join the conversation.

Now, what is Pecha Kucha again?

It is a “quick-presentation” format, started in a small office in Tokyo.

Described as a “the mix of kindergarten show-and-tell, open-mike night and happy hour” Pecha Kucha is a fun social event where one can take the stage and present 20 images at 20 seconds per image.

Please note: Even though we would like to accommodate everyone who wants to present, the time constraints limit us to a maximum of 20 presentations. A panel made up of artists, designers, and architects from point8 will be selecting the 20 presenters. We would also be trying to ensure that the widest range/variety of media and people are represented on each PK Night.
