Pecha Kucha V. 8 – Meet the Presenters

As always, the 10 presentations of PK Volume 8 will cover a broad range of topics and media. This time it ranges from Photography and Poetry to Biking and Racial Identity. The presenters in alphabetical order (- not the actual sequence of presentations):

All the door proceeds from PKN Volume 8 would go to the post earthquake-tsunami rebuilding efforts in Japan. It will be a part of “Inspire Japan” – a global initiative led by the Pecha Kucha HQ in Tokyo along with Architecture for Humanity in which 120+ cities from around the world are participating. Since PKN is volunteer driven – at the local as well as global level – and do not have any overheads or administrative costs, 100% of what is collected will go to the rebuilding work.

Pecha Kucha Vol. 8 on April 28 – Inspire Japan

We will be a part of Inspire Japan – a global initiative led by the Pecha Kucha HQ in Tokyo along with Architecture for Humanity in which 120+ cities from around the world are participating. See: http://global-day.pecha-kucha.org/ There was a similar initiative last year to help with the rebuilding of Haiti, in which $80,000 was raised from around the world, and paid for a new school building (- see the presentation from PKSF: http://www.pecha-kucha.org/presentations/220 )

What you can do: The cover will be the same as always – $5 – you don’t have to pay anything extra. (Since we are volunteer driven – at the local as well as global level – and do not have any overheads or administrative costs, we will be able to send 100% of what we collect to Japan). However you can help by helping spread the word, and by encouraging others to attend. Hope you can be there.

We know there are amazing, brilliant, and wildly creative things going on around town, and in your mind – and this is your chance to share it with the rest of the region! The only limitations are 20 images, 20 seconds per image, for a total of 6 minutes 40 seconds. No other rules, except – make it extraordinary!

Why should you present?

It is an opportunity:

• to air your work/ideas, share your visions, express your concerns/critiques
• to challenge yourself to be concise and creative in getting your message across
• to present to a broad city-wide audience, in a casual social environment
• place yourself among the best creative talent in town

Guidelines, Rules and Selection Process

We will be limiting the total number for Vol. 6 to a maximum of 12 presentations. A panel made up of artists, designers, and architects from Point8 and CLT Blog will be selecting the final list of 12 presenters. The selection will be based on the quality of the entries, and the originality of the theme/ideas submitted. The panelists will work with would-be presenters on refining ideas & honing quality of presentations.

Important Dates

Wednesday, June 16 | Orientation For Would-Be Presenters

Panelists and past presenters will share tips on preparing a successful presentation. Please attend if you are interested in presenting. Orientation starts at 6:30 PM and will be held at Dharma Lounge.

Wednesday, June 30 | Deadline for Presentation Application

5 PM on Wednesday, June 30 is the deadline for would-be presenters to send in the final presentation package.

Friday, July 16 | Pecha Kucha Night Vol 6

All Presenters will be required to reach the venue before 6:45 PM, event begins at 7:30 PM

Getting there/Parking:

Dharma Lounge has some parking besides it and across the street (look for their signs). There is also street parking on Summit & Camden Streets. However it is a very accessible location – so we encourage you to car pool/bike/walk/take the light rail (it is just one block from the Bland Street Station) – let us try save some effort, space, gas, the environment etc., etc.

Now, what is Pecha Kucha again?

It is a “quick-presentation” format, started in a small office in Tokyo.

Described as a “the mix of kindergarten show-and-tell, open-mike night and happy hour” Pecha Kucha is a fun social event where one can take the stage and present 20 images at 20 seconds per image.
